Malta Public Transport

Tallinja Card Balance Refund

With effect from 1st October, holders of a personalised Tallinja Card (the one with the name and photo of the holder), can travel for free on day routes, night routes, and special services. Holders of the personalised Tallinja Card are still required to pay when traveling on Tallinja Direct (TD) routes, On Demand service, and other chargeable services like Tallinja Bike, the ferries connecting Valletta to Cospicua and Sliema, and the Barrakka Lift.

Even if the Tallinja Card can be used for other transport services, with the introduction of free public transport, customers may want to apply for a refund of their balance on their Tallinja Card. This can be done by completing this form by the 30th of November 2023. Please note that the fields "ID Card/Passport," "Date of Birth," and “Locality” are required to help us ensure that this claim is being made by the holder of the Tallinja Card for which a request is being made. As part of this process, you will be able to enter your bank information.

In 2023, the €10 administrative fee to apply for refund will be reduced to €5. The offer will be extended for an additional year. It will be deducted automatically from the balance of your Tallinja Card. This administrative charge is there to cover all processing fees, local bank charges, and other administrative costs to top-up, retain, and refund the balance. Kindly visit https://www.publictransport.com.mt/en/terms-and-conditions for the full terms and conditions. Please allow 4 weeks for the application to be processed.

Alternatively, you are being given the option to donate your entire balance to the Puttinu Cares Foundation for no extra charge. If you choose this option, Malta Public Transport will cover the administrative fee so that the full balance can be donated to the Puttinu Cares Foundation. Once you select this option on the form, an email receipt will be sent to you. We are currently accepting applications, starting with Gozo cards. We plan to open for a new type of card every four weeks: concession, student, adult, and child cards.
