A series of route changes are being introduced to improve public transport services across the island. These changes aim to enhance reliability, accessibility, and direct connections between key areas, including educational hubs, hospitals, residential zones, industrial zones, ferry terminals, and the Malta International Airport.
From 20 April 2025, Routes X1, X2, X3 and X4 will be replaced by a number of routes as follows.
Route X1 will be replaced by Routes X300, X299, 208, and TD1. These new roues together provide continuous coverage from Cirkewwa to major hubs such as the University, Mater Dei Hospital, and Valletta, while preserving a link between the Airport and University/Mater Dei.
These alternative routes will be serving the following localities:
- X300: Ċirkewwa, Marfa, Mellieħa, San Pawl il-Baħar, Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, Pembroke, San Ġwann, University, Mater Dei, Msida, Floriana, Valletta
- X299: Ċirkewwa, Mellieħa, San Pawl il-Baħar, Pembroke, University, Mater Dei
- 208: Airport, Ħal Farruġ, Marsa Park & Ride, University, Mater Dei
- 214: Buġibba, Qawra, Burmarrad, Mosta, Imtarfa, Rabat, Ta’ Qali, Ħ’Attard, Ħal Balzan, Birkirkara, Santa Venera, Marsa, Paola, Ħal Tarxien, Santa Luċija, Airport
- TD1: Ċirkewwa, Marfa, Mellieħa, Xemxija, San Pawl il-Baħar, Buġibba, Qawra, Rabat, Airport
Route X2 will be replaced by Routes 211, 110, 233, 88, TD2, and TD3. These collectively restore connectivity along the coastal corridor and provide frequent access to educational institutions, hospitals, and the Airport.
These alternative routes will be serving the following localities:
- 211: San Ġiljan, Sliema, Gżira, Marsa, Paola
- 110: Pembroke, Swieqi, San Ġiljan, Sliema, Gżira, San Ġwann, Kappara, Mater Dei, Swatar, Birkirkara, Fleur-de-Lys, Santa Venera, Ħal Qormi, Marsa
- 233: Swieqi, Pembroke, San Ġiljan, Sliema, Gżira, Ta’ Xbiex, University, Mater Dei
- 88: Valletta, Floriana, Marsa, Paola, Ħal Tarxien, Bir id-Deheb, Ħal Għaxaq, Gudja, Airport
- TD2: San Ġiljan, Pembroke, Paceville, San Ġwann, Airport
- TD3: Gżira, Sliema, San Ġiljan, San Ġwann, Airport
Route X3 will be replaced by Routes 214 and TD1. These services ensure that all localities from Buġibba to the Airport via central Malta remain well connected.
These alternative routes will be serving the following localities:
- 214: Buġibba, Qawra, Burmarrad, Mosta, Imtarfa, Rabat, Ta’ Qali, Ħ’Attard, Ħal Balzan, Birkirkara, Santa Venera, Marsa, Paola, Ħal Tarxien, Santa Luċija, Airport
- TD1: Ċirkewwa, Marfa, Mellieħa, Xemxija, San Pawl il-Baħar, Buġibba, Qawra, Rabat, Airport
Route X4 will be replaced by Routes 205, 88, 82B, and TD4. These services maintain all connections from Valletta to Birżebbuġa and Ħal Far, with improved links to the Airport and surrounding residential areas.
These alternative routes will be serving the following localities:
- 205: Marsa Park & Ride, Ħal Farruġ, Luqa, Airport, Ħal Far, Birżebbuġa
- 88: Valletta, Floriana, Marsa, Paola, Ħal Tarxien, Bir id-Deheb, Ħal Għaxaq, Gudja, Airport
- 82B: Valletta, Floriana, Marsa, Paola, Ħal Tarxien, Bir id-Deheb, Ħal Far, Birżebbuġa
- TD4: Airport, Valletta, Lascaris (Gozo Ferry), Floriana, Airport
Route 207 is a new route that will serve the following localities: Marsa Park & Ride, University, Mater Dei and Giovanni Curmi Higher Secondary.
