Real Time Information at your fingertips: the new tallinja app

Malta Public Transport launches free mobile APP today

Tallinja customers can now access real time information about the bus service by downloading the new tallinja app, which is available free of charge.

“This innovative app is an important step in our commitment to continue improving the overall customer experience. We have invested significantly in new technology which enables us to know where all our buses are at any point in time, and we want to share this information with our customers in the easiest possible way” explained Konrad Pulé, General Manager of Malta Public Transport.

Customers can use this app to locate their closest bus stop. They can also view which bus routes serve that stop, and know the estimated time of arrival of buses arriving on that stop within the next 30 minutes.

Pulé explained that the system works on GPS technology where every bus transmits the current location to the central system. The system then compares the location to where the bus is planned to be, and deduces the estimated time of arrival on each of the 2,000 bus stops.

“Our service reliability is improving day by day. There are external realities, including different traffic patterns that vary throguhout the day, that affect our service. This app offers a solution to our customers who are now able to plan and reduce their waiting time at bus stops.”

This app is also giving benefits to tallinja card customers. The tallinja card was launched one year ago to the day and was the first milestone in making travelling by bus easier. With a simple registration process, more than half of the population have a tallinja card and over 100,000 individual customers use their card every month. The tallinja app offers these customers the opportunity to check their balance, top up their card and even see their actual bus trips and transaction history.

Planning a journey by bus is also easier with the new app. All bus stops are identifiable on a map, and by clicking on any one of these bus stops, customers can plan their journey.

This app is available for download from Apple Store and Google Play Store. This service is also being made available by SMS where one can send the bus stop number on 50611010 and receive the real time infromation for that bus stop. Regular tarrifs apply.
