Malta Public Transport has rolled out an updated version of the free Tallinja App, which now includes new functions to improve customer experience. These app updates, which are still in their initial pilot testing phase, are aimed at providing commuters with a more accessible and user-friendly interface. The updates also include a new feature whereby bus passengers will be able to check whether their bus stops or bus routes are being affected by service disruptions.
The Tallinja App has proved to be a useful tool for commuters opting to travel by public transport, with 95,000 unique active app users per month. The Tallinja App’s main function is to provide real-time information about bus arrival times. With the new homepage, customers can still automatically locate the closest bus stop through the map feature. Simply tapping on the required bus stop will display all the routes stopping at that bus stop, together with the estimated time of arrival based on the GPS location of the bus serving that particular route.
Malta Public Transport is also currently testing a new feature whereby service updates related to disruptions are visible on the map itself. Bus stops that are not being served are displayed in grey on the map and accompanied by a yellow caution sign. Bus stops that are serving some routes but not others also show a yellow caution sign. When tapping on these bus stops, the orange “Alert” tag will provide a description of the service update and any other additional information relevant to that bus stop.
Should customers wish to obtain bus route information in order to plan their journeys, they just need to tap on the “Bus” icon and directions will be provided to assist customers with their trip. Tallinja On Demand passengers can also now book a trip directly through the home page, reserving their seat on a custom journey that allows them to choose their point of departure and destination from a number of bus stops located within the central and northern harbour areas of the island.
These new features complement the existing Tallinja App functionality that enables users to receive push notifications for service alerts related to their saved favourite routes and bus stops. This functionality allows them to plan their trips and receive relevant updates on any disruptions occurring on their preferred routes. A list of all service disruptions is also available on the home page, similar to the previous version.
Tallinja App users are invited to submit their feedback directly through the app itself, by sending a message through the “Help Centre” tab accessible through the profile menu.
“While we are still in the early stages of the rollout, all feedback from customers is being closely monitored in order to actively address any bugs or issues that may arise,” said Alison Zammit, Tallinja Product Manager. “We are committed to continue enhancing the Tallinja App so as to assist customers with the navigation of the public transport network.”
The Tallinja App can be downloaded for free from Google Play or the Apple Store.
