20/04/2023

Over 5.4 million passengers have travelled by bus during March 2023, indicating a month-on-month increase of 20% when compared to February 2023. When compared to the same month in 2022 and 2019, this translates to an increase of 50.3% and 18.2% respectively.

During March 2023 over 4.5 million passengers used their Tallinja Card to travel, marking a significant increase of 20.0% when compared to the 3.8 million registered in February 2023. When compared to March 2022, this signifies an increase of 64.4%, whereas when compared to the same month in 2019 this indicates an increase of 35.7%.

Konrad Pulé, the General Manager of Malta Public Transport, commented on the positive trend, stating that these monthly figures once again show that more passengers are choosing to travel to their destinations by bus. However, he also acknowledged that passengers are raising concerns about the time it takes to travel by bus, and emphasized the need for stakeholders to prioritize bus passengers on the road.

Registrations for Tallinja Card also saw a sustained positive upward trend, increasing by 11% during March 2023 when compared to February 2023, and a staggering 112% increase when compared to registrations made in March 2022.
