Tickets and Travel Cards
You can purchase a ticket on the bus, either with cash or using a contactless bank card. With effect from 19 October 2025 to 13 June 2026, the winter fare of €2.00 for a Single Journey on Day Services is valid for 2 hours when paying in cash or with a contactless card applies.

12 Single Day Journeys
The 12 Single Day Journeys card costs €19 and offers 12 journeys with free transfers within a 2-hour period on all Day Routes making it perfect for multiple short trips in a day. It is also possible to share this card with more than one traveller. This card can be purchased from Malta Public Transport Sales Offices, card dispensing machines, and authorised third-party outlets. The card is valid for six months from the first use.
Explore Adult – 7 Day
The Explore Adult – 7 Day card provides unlimited bus travel on all Day Routes, Night Routes and tallinja Direct Routes. It also includes select Special Services. The card is valid for 7 days and costs €25. This card is available at Malta Public Transport Sales Offices, card dispensing machines, and authorised third-party outlets. The card is for individual use and cannot be shared.
Explore Child – 7 Day
Designed for young travellers, the Explore Child – 7 Day card offers 7 days of unlimited bus travel on all Day Routes, Night Routes and tallinja Direct Routes. It also includes select Special Services. This card is valid for 7 days and costs just €7. Children between 4 and 10 years may travel with this card. Children younger than 4 years travel for free and do not need a card. This card is available at Malta Public Transport Sales Offices and authorised third-party outlets. This card allows children to enjoy the same travel freedom as adults, but at a lower cost. The card is for individual use and cannot be shared.
Explore Flex Travel Card
The Explore Flex travel card gives you the flexibility to buy a travel offer that best suits your needs, whether it’s for a short stay, a longer stay, a pass that includes only bus trips, or one that also includes sightseeing trips. You can also purchase 2 trips on the Airport Direct for travel to/from your accommodation for €6. Once you buy the Explore Flex travel card from our sales offices or ticket machines, you can add it to your tallinja app to benefit from other offers.

Bus Tickets
Pay in Cash, Contactless Bank Card and Smartphone
For passengers without a travel card or for those who prefer Cash, Contactless Bank Card and Smartphone, bus tickets can be purchased directly from the bus driver upon boarding the bus.
Tickets are valid for two hours, allowing free transfers within this period.
All passengers must carry valid proof of travel. Regular checks are conducted to ensure compliance. A fine of €50 applies if passengers cannot present a valid ticket or have failed to validate their travel card or ticket upon boarding

How do I get started with my Explore Flex card?
You can buy an Explore Flex card from any Sales Office of Malta Public Transport and from the card dispensing machines. Once purchased, download the tallinja app from Google Play or the Apple App Store and register for an account. You can then buy any value passes and add them to your card.
How do I add my Explore Flex card to the tallinja app?
You can add your Explore Flex card by either scanning the QR code on the card or entering the card number in the “My Cards” section of the app.
How can I top up my Explore Flex card?
You can top up your card with credit directly through the tallinja app by using a credit card.
What value packages are available for purchase?
Once you have topped up your card, you can choose from the value passes available on the tallinja app. Purchase these passes by clicking “Buy Offer” and using the credit on your Explore Flex card. Value passes can also be purchased at a Sales Offices when you buy your Explore Flex card.
