Public transport summer schedule from Sunday

Malta Public Transport announced its new summer schedule effective from June 13. Changes are being introduced across the network to cater for seasonal travel preferences. The affected routes are the following.

Three routes will be extended to serve popular beaches as follows:

• Route 49 between Valletta and Mellieħa will be extended to Armier Bay and will now operate daily including weekends.
• Route 74 between Valletta and Żurrieq will be extended to the Blue Grotto.
• Routes 109 and 109A between Siġġiewi and Baħrija will be extended to Lapsi Bay.

Seven routes will be operated with an increase in frequency to cater for the higher demand as follows:

• Route 212 between Sliema and Buġibba will increase frequency to every 30 minutes during peak hours on weekends from 7:30 to 20:00.
• Route 221 between Buġibba and Ċirkewwa will increase frequency to every 30 minutes during peak hours on weekends from 7:30 to 20:00.
• Route 222 between Sliema and Ċirkewwa will increase frequency to every 30 minutes during peak hours on weekends from 7:30 to 20:00.
• Route 223 between Buġibba and Għajn Tuffieħa will increase frequency to every 30 minutes and will operate daily including weekends.
• Route 225 between Sliema and Għajn Tuffieħa will increase frequency to every 30 minutes during peak hours from 7:30 to 20:00 daily including weekends.
• Route 310 between Rabat and Marsalforn will increase frequency to every 30 during peak hours.
• Route 80 between Valletta and Birżebbuga will operate every 60 minutes on weekends

Three routes are being adjusted in order to provide a more efficient network as follows:

• Route 72 between Valletta and Qrendi will start departing at a five-minute interval from Route 71 between Valletta and Żurrieq.
• Route 64 between Valletta and Santa Venera will start operating a circular journey from Mrieħel.
• Route X4 between Birżebbuġa and Valletta will operate the last shift on weekdays at 22:00 to cater for those working late shifts at the Ħal Far industrial area.

There will also be the following changes as from 1 July 2021 in order to coincide with the end of the scholastic year:

• Route 43 between Valletta and Naxxar will operate every hour.
• Route X1A from Ċirkewwa to the University of Malta will be suspended.

The price for cash tickets and contactless payments will be €2.00. Passengers using the Tallinja Card will continue to benefit from reduced rates. Adult, Student and Gozo Tallinja Card holders pay €0.75 per trip, and Child and Concession Tallinja Card holders pay €0.25 per trip, with different capping in place according to the card type.
