New buses start operating

As from this week, whoever uses public transport on a number of routes, has started benefitting from the substantial increase in Malta Public Transport’s fleet. As announced last Friday, MPT imported forty new 12 metre buses. With this increase, it became possible to affect a number of changes to the route network for these to be in a better position in keeping up with the ever increasing demand.

Following discussions between Transport Malta and MPT, it was decided to increase the frequency of five main routes. Since Monday morning, five routes started operating with increased frequency and thus their capacity has increased substantially. This is the first of a series of planned changes.

Throughout the week, route X4 started operating every 15 minutes during peak hours. This route operates between Valletta and Birżebbuġa going through Ħamrun (Blata l-Bajda), Marsa, Ħal Luqa, the airport and Ħal Far.

Residents of Rabat, Ħ’Attard, Birkirkara and Msida who use route 50, between Valletta and Rabat, will have a more frequent service during peak hours and the route will start operating twice every hour between 16:00 and 18:00 as well. These increases will be in effect between Monday and Friday. 

MPT will start operating route 48 every 15 minutes during the week. The route operates between Buġibba and Valletta, including St. Paul’s Bay, Mosta, Birkirkara and Msida.

Route 63, between Qormi and Valletta will start operating every 20 minutes, during peak hours between Monday and Friday. The capacity will thus increase for the residents of Qormi and parts of Ħamrun.

In Gozo as well, route 301, that operates between Mġarr and Victoria will start operating with increased frequency to make up for the increased demand . The increased frequency on this route will apply throughout the week.
