Malta Public Transport operates the national bus service across the Maltese islands, providing efficient and reliable transport solutions.

As part of a global network of transport companies spanning four continents and employing over 40,000 employees, we leverage more than 120 years of experience in managing transport by bus, coach, and rail.

Using this international expertise, we offer high-quality, locally tailored services in Malta that meet the unique needs of our passengers, including:

Our Commitment

Since we began operations in 2015, we have made substantial investments to modernise our bus fleet. Specifically, our focus has been on safety, environmental sustainability, and passenger comfort. As a result, our fleet has now grown to 500 buses, which include the latest Euro 6 diesel technology. Furthermore, we have introduced 32 fully electric buses in 2024. Ultimately, this investment underscores our dedication to maintaining one of the most modern bus fleets in Europe. We meticulously designed our network, governed by the Authority for Transport in Malta, following a comprehensive overhaul in 2015. It includes over 2,000 bus stops, ensuring extensive coverage across the islands.

In 2017, our commitment to enhancing public transport received recognition with the IRU Bus Excellence Award, affirming our continuous drive to provide the best possible service to our passengers.

  • Passenger Comfort: Our buses are regularly cleaned and maintained, ensuring a pleasant travel experience. Each bus features air-conditioning and two doors to facilitate easy boarding and alighting.
  • Innovative Ticketing: In 2015, we launched the tallinja card and an advanced ticketing system. Today, approximately 75% of the Maltese population holds a personalised tallinja card, with over 296,000 active holders. More than 80% of our passengers use this card for their bus travel.
  • Real-Time Information: Our tallinja app, launched in 2016, provides real-time bus arrival information and won the Best App Award at the MCA eBusiness Awards that same year. As of 2024, the app has been downloaded over 520,000 times, with 95,000 users engaging with it monthly.
  • Diverse Travel Options: We have introduced four tallinja cards for passengers who are in Malta on a short visit: the Explore Card for Adults, the Explore Card for Children, Explore Flex Card, and 12 Single Day Journeys card, catering to the varied needs of our passengers.
